An endoscopy lets your doctor look inside your digestive tract to find or rule out a problem, and good preparation makes it safer and clearer. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.
Follow the prep instructions you were given exactly, including any fasting or bowel prep and when to start. Note any medications you were told to pause, like blood thinners, and confirm the timing.
Arrange a ride home if you will be sedated, and write down your questions. Keep a note of your symptoms and why the test was ordered so you can discuss the findings.
On the day, expect the team to confirm your prep and consent, carry out the procedure, and share first impressions after. Ask your questions before, since you may be drowsy after.
Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.
Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)
After the procedure, rest as advised, restart medications only when told, and note any results and the plan. Arrange any follow-up that was recommended.
If you have severe abdominal pain, vomiting, black stools, chest pain, or a fever after the procedure, seek urgent care right away.
