Heartburn is common, but frequent or stubborn reflux is worth a closer look. The details you bring help your doctor decide what to try and whether tests are needed. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a heartburn visit that gets you relief

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track how often the burning happens, when it tends to hit, and how bad it gets. Note what seems to trigger it, like certain foods, large meals, lying down, or stress, and whether it wakes you at night.

Write down the antacids or other remedies you have tried, how often, and how well they worked. List your current medications and any symptoms like trouble swallowing or unplanned weight loss.

Bring these questions

  • What is likely causing my reflux?
  • Which changes or treatment should I try first?
  • Do I need any tests, like a scope?
  • What symptoms mean I should be seen sooner?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to ask about your pattern and triggers, review your medications, and talk through treatment. Share your notes early so the visit lands on a plan that fits your routine.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, track whether the burning eases on the plan you were given, and note any side effects or triggers you spot.

If you have trouble or pain swallowing, vomiting, black stools, or unplanned weight loss, do not wait, seek care. Otherwise, book a follow-up with your notes in hand.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps how often your reflux happens, what triggers it, and what you have tried in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear pattern instead of guesswork. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
