Bloating can come from your diet, digestion, or a wider gut issue, so a clear account of when it happens and what comes with it helps your doctor find the cause. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a visit that gets you answers

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track when the bloating happens, whether it is tied to meals or the time of day, and how long it lasts. Note anything with it, like pain, gas, changes in your bowels, or feeling full quickly.

Write down which foods or habits seem to trigger it and anything that eases it. List your current medications and supplements, and note any pattern tied to your cycle or stress.

Bring these questions

  • What is most likely causing my bloating?
  • Could certain foods or a food intolerance be behind it?
  • Do I need any tests?
  • What can I change to ease it in the meantime?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to ask about your diet and pattern, press on your abdomen, and possibly suggest tests or a food diary. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on finding a cause.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, keep tracking when the bloating happens and whether the plan is helping, along with any foods that stand out. A clear record shows whether things are improving.

If bloating comes with severe pain, vomiting, blood in your stool, unplanned weight loss, or a lasting change in your bowels, see a doctor promptly rather than waiting.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps when the bloating happens, the foods around it, and your relevant history in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear pattern rather than a rough guess. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
