A post-op visit is where your care team checks how you are healing after a procedure, so a clear account of your recovery helps them catch anything early. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a smooth recovery check

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track how you have been healing, including pain, swelling, and how the wound or site looks, and note anything that seems off. Keep a record of your pain relief and how well it is working.

Write down any instructions you were given at discharge and how you have managed them. List your current medications and any questions about returning to normal activity.

Bring these questions

  • Am I healing as expected?
  • When can I return to work, exercise, or driving?
  • How do I care for the wound or site from here?
  • What signs of a problem should I watch for?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to check the wound or site, review your recovery, and update your instructions. Lead with your notes so anything unusual gets attention.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, follow the updated recovery plan, keep tracking how the site looks and feels, and book any further follow-up. A clear record shows your progress.

If you have a fever, spreading redness, worsening pain, or the wound opens or drains, contact your care team promptly rather than waiting.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps your recovery notes, discharge instructions, and questions in one place, so your post-op visit starts from a clear picture of how you are healing. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
