A skin cancer check is a quick, full-skin exam to catch changes early, when they are easiest to treat. Knowing your history and flagging the spots that worry you makes the visit more useful. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.
Note any moles or spots that are new, changing, itching, or bleeding, and where they are, so none get overlooked. A quick photo of anything you are watching helps track change over time.
Bring your history of sunburns, tanning, or past skin cancers, and any family history. Remove nail polish and go in without makeup so your skin, scalp, and nails can be seen clearly.
Expect your provider to examine your skin from head to toe, sometimes with a handheld magnifier. Point out the spots on your list early so they get a close look while you have the time.
Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.
Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)
Note anything your provider is watching and when to return. If a spot was sampled, note when to expect results and who to contact if you do not hear.
If a mole changes in size, shape, or color, bleeds, or does not heal, book a visit rather than waiting for your next routine check. Bring your photos so change is easy to see.
