Knee pain can come from many places, from a single injury to gradual wear. The details you bring help your doctor pinpoint it faster. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a knee pain visit that gets you moving

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track when the pain started, whether it followed an injury, and exactly where it sits. Note whether the knee swells, catches, gives way, or is stiff, and what movements set it off.

Record what eases it and what makes it worse, from stairs to sitting to exercise. List the pain relievers, braces, or exercises you have tried and how much they helped.

Bring these questions

  • What is likely causing my knee pain?
  • Do I need an X-ray or scan?
  • Which movements should I avoid or focus on?
  • What signs mean I should seek care urgently?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to examine the knee, test its movement and stability, and ask how it affects your day. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on a plan rather than fact-finding.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, keep a short note on pain and what you can do, and stick with any exercises or plan for the time your doctor suggested. Steady progress is the goal.

If the knee locks, gives way, swells suddenly, or the pain worsens, seek care rather than waiting. Otherwise, book your follow-up with your progress notes in hand.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps track of where your knee hurts, what sets it off, and what you have tried, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a vague memory. It holds your history in one place, so each visit builds on the last. And when you want guidance between appointments, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
