Most nosebleeds are harmless, but frequent or heavy ones are worth looking at, so a clear account of how often they happen helps your doctor find the cause. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a visit that gets you answers

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track how often the nosebleeds happen, how long they last, and how heavy they are. Note which side they start on, what you were doing when they began, and how you stop them.

Write down anything that seems to trigger them, like dry air, nose picking, or blowing your nose. List your current medications, especially blood thinners, and any history of high blood pressure or bleeding problems.

Bring these questions

  • What is most likely causing my nosebleeds?
  • Could a medication be making them worse?
  • Do I need any tests?
  • How should I stop a nosebleed at home?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to look inside your nose, ask about the pattern, and review your medications. Share your notes early so the visit lands on a clear plan.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, track whether the nosebleeds ease on the plan you were given, and note any that are heavy or hard to stop. A clear record shows whether things are improving.

If a nosebleed will not stop after twenty minutes of pressure, is very heavy, or follows a head injury, seek urgent care right away.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps how often the nosebleeds happen, what triggers them, and your relevant medications in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear pattern rather than a rough guess. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
