Deciding to quit is a big step, and you do not have to do it on willpower alone. A visit can set you up with a plan and support that make success far more likely. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a quit that lasts

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Note how much you smoke or vape and when your strongest urges hit, like after meals or with coffee, since these patterns shape your plan. Track any past quit attempts and what helped or got in the way.

List your current medications and any conditions, since these affect which quit aids are suitable. Think about your reasons for quitting and a possible quit date, and write down your questions.

Bring these questions

  • Which quit aids, like nicotine replacement or medication, fit me best?
  • How do I handle cravings and the hardest triggers?
  • What support or programs are available to me?
  • What should I expect in the first few weeks?
  • What do I do if I slip, without giving up?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your provider to ask about your smoking, your health, and past attempts, and to help you build a plan with a quit date and the right support. Share your notes early so the plan fits your real patterns.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

Keep a short daily note on cravings, slips, and what is working, and use the support you set up. A slip is not a failure, it is information for the next attempt.

Book the check-ins your provider suggested, since regular follow-up strongly improves the odds of staying quit. Bring your notes so adjustments are based on how it is actually going.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps your triggers, medications, and questions in one place, so your visit starts prepared and your progress is easy to see. Everything stays with you between visits, so each check-in builds on the last. When you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
