Losing weight without trying can have many causes, so a clear account of how much and how quickly helps your doctor look in the right place. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.
Track how much weight you have lost and over how long, if you know, and whether your appetite or eating has changed. Note anything else going on, like fatigue, fever, night sweats, or changes in your bowels.
Write down when you first noticed the change and anything happening alongside, like stress, low mood, or a new medication. List your current medications and any ongoing conditions.
Expect your doctor to ask about your eating, mood, and other symptoms, examine you, and likely order tests. Lead with your notes so the visit covers the full picture.
Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.
Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)
After the visit, keep tracking your weight and any symptoms, along with any results. A clear record shows whether the loss is continuing or settling.
If the weight loss is rapid, or comes with fever, night sweats, pain, or blood in your stool, see a doctor promptly rather than waiting.
myStoria keeps your weight over time, your symptoms, and your relevant history in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a rough guess. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
