Belly pain can come from many places, so where it sits and how it feels matter a lot. The details you bring help your doctor narrow it down quickly. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to an abdominal pain visit that gets you answers

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track where the pain sits, how it feels, and when it started. Note whether it moves, what makes it better or worse, and anything with it, like nausea, fever, changes in your bowels, or pain after eating.

Write down anything you have tried and how it helped. List your current medications, allergies, and any pattern tied to meals, your cycle, or stress.

Bring these questions

  • What is likely causing this?
  • Do I need any tests or imaging?
  • Which foods or activities should I avoid for now?
  • What signs mean I should seek care urgently?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to press on your belly, ask about the timeline, and check for warning signs. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on finding a cause.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, keep a short note on where it hurts and how it changes, and whether the plan is helping. A clear record shows whether things are improving or need another look.

If the pain is sudden and severe, comes with a high fever, vomiting, or blood, or your belly is rigid, do not wait, seek urgent care. Otherwise, book a follow-up with your notes in hand.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps where the pain sits, how it feels, and what sets it off in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a vague memory. It holds your history between visits, so each one builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
