Diarrhea often clears on its own, but when it lingers or comes with other symptoms it is worth a closer look. The details you bring help your doctor tell the difference. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a visit that gets you answers

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track how long it has lasted, how often it happens, and what it looks like. Note anything with it, like fever, cramping, blood, or feeling faint, and whether you are keeping fluids down.

Write down any recent travel, new foods, or people around you who were unwell, and anything you have tried. List your current medications, since some can be a factor.

Bring these questions

  • What is likely causing this?
  • How do I stay hydrated safely?
  • Do I need a stool test or other tests?
  • What symptoms mean I should be seen sooner?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to ask about the timeline, recent exposures, and hydration, and to check for causes. Share your notes early so the visit moves quickly to a clear plan.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, track whether it eases on the plan you were given, how your hydration is holding up, and any new symptoms.

If you have signs of dehydration, blood in your stool, a high fever, or severe belly pain, seek care rather than waiting. Otherwise, book a follow-up with your notes ready.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps how long it has lasted, what comes with it, and any recent exposures in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a rough recollection. It holds your history between visits, so each one builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
