Muscle aches can come from activity, a virus, stress, or a medication, so a clear account of where they are and when they started helps your doctor find the cause. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a visit that gets you answers

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track which muscles ache, when it started, and whether it is all over or in one area. Note anything with it, like fever, weakness, or fatigue, and whether it followed exercise, illness, or a new medication.

Write down how long it has been going on and anything that eases or worsens it. List your current medications, especially any started recently, since some can cause muscle aches.

Bring these questions

  • What is most likely causing my muscle aches?
  • Could a medication or a virus be behind it?
  • Do I need any tests?
  • What can I do to ease it in the meantime?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to ask about the pattern, check the affected muscles, and consider tests if needed. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on finding a cause.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, track whether the aches ease on the plan you were given, and note any new symptoms. A clear record shows whether things are improving.

If muscle aches come with a high fever, severe weakness, dark urine, or a spreading rash, seek care promptly rather than waiting.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps where the aches are, when they started, and your recent medications in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a rough guess. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
