Numbness or tingling can come from a nerve, your circulation, or how you hold your body, so a clear account of where and when it happens helps your doctor narrow it down. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a visit that gets you answers

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track where the numbness or tingling is, when it happens, and how long it lasts. Note whether it follows a position, like sitting or sleeping a certain way, and whether it comes with weakness or pain.

Write down how long this has been going on and anything that brings it on or eases it. List your current medications and any history of diabetes, back or neck problems, or thyroid conditions.

Bring these questions

  • What could be causing the numbness or tingling?
  • Do I need any tests, like blood work or nerve studies?
  • Is this linked to another condition I have?
  • What symptoms mean I should seek care sooner?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to check your sensation, strength, and reflexes, ask about the pattern, and possibly order tests. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on finding a cause.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, track where and when the numbness or tingling happens and whether the plan is helping, along with any results. A clear record shows whether it is improving.

If numbness or weakness comes on suddenly, affects one side of your body, or comes with face drooping, trouble speaking, or confusion, call your local emergency number right away.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps where and when the numbness happens, what comes with it, and your relevant history in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear pattern rather than a single moment. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
