Red or irritated eyes can come from allergies, infection, dryness, or strain, so a clear account of how they look and feel helps your doctor find the cause. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a visit that gets you answers

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track when it started, whether one eye or both, and what it feels like, from itchy to gritty to sore. Note any discharge, watering, or crusting, and whether your vision has changed.

Write down anything around the time it started, like a cold, allergies, contact lenses, or a new product. List your current medications and any history of eye conditions.

Bring these questions

  • What is most likely causing my red eyes?
  • Is this contagious, and how do I avoid spreading it?
  • Which treatment should I try first?
  • What symptoms mean I should be seen urgently?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to look at your eyes, ask about the pattern, and check for signs of infection or allergy. Share your notes early so the visit lands on a clear plan.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, track whether the redness and irritation ease on the plan you were given, and note any change in your vision.

If you have eye pain, sensitivity to light, vision changes, or redness after an injury, seek urgent eye care rather than waiting.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps when the irritation started, what comes with it, and what you have tried in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a single glance. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
