Wrist or hand pain can come from strain, a joint, or a pinched nerve, so a clear account of where it hurts and what makes it worse helps your doctor pin down the cause. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a visit that gets you moving again

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track where the pain is, when it started, and what makes it worse, like typing, gripping, or lifting. Note any numbness, tingling, weakness, swelling, or stiffness, and whether it follows an injury.

Write down how long this has been going on and anything that eases it, like rest or a brace. List your current medications and any history of arthritis, injury, or repetitive-strain work.

Bring these questions

  • What is causing my wrist or hand pain?
  • Do I need imaging or other tests?
  • Which movements or activities should I avoid for now?
  • What can I do to relieve it and prevent it coming back?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to examine your wrist and hand, test your movement and grip, and possibly order imaging. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on a clear plan.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, track your pain and movement and whether the plan is helping, along with any results. A clear record shows whether things are improving.

If your hand or wrist is badly swollen, misshapen after an injury, or you lose feeling or movement, seek care rather than waiting. Otherwise, book a follow-up with your notes in hand.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps where it hurts, what makes it worse, and what you have tried in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a single glance. It holds your history between visits, so each one builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
