Hair loss has many causes, from genetics to stress, diet, or a health condition, so a clear account of how and when it changed helps your doctor find the reason. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.
Track when you first noticed the loss, whether it is thinning all over or in patches, and how quickly it has changed. Photos over time help. Note any itching, scaling, or hair coming out in clumps.
Write down anything that lines up with it, like illness, stress, a new medication, or a change in diet. List your current medications and supplements, and note any family history of hair loss or thyroid conditions.
Expect your doctor to look at your scalp and hair, ask about your history, and possibly order blood tests. Share your notes and photos early so the visit lands on a clear plan.
Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.
Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)
After the visit, track whether the loss slows or your hair responds to the plan, with photos over time. Hair changes are slow, so a clear record shows what is really happening.
If hair falls out suddenly in patches, or comes with a painful, scarring, or spreading scalp rash, see a doctor sooner rather than waiting for a routine follow-up.
myStoria keeps your timeline, triggers, and photos over time in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a single glance. It holds your history between visits, so each one builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
