Bringing up low mood can be daunting, and a little preparation makes the visit gentler and more useful. The details you bring help your doctor understand what you are going through. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.
Track how long you have felt this way, how it affects your sleep, appetite, energy, and interest in things, and whether it is steady or comes and goes. Note anything that tends to lift or deepen it.
Write down anything you have tried and how it helped. List your current medications and supplements, and note your sleep, alcohol, and any recent life changes.
Expect your doctor to ask open questions about your mood, sleep, and daily life, and to talk through options with you. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on what matters most to you.
Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.
Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)
After the visit, keep a short daily note on your mood, sleep, and energy, and how any plan is going. A clear record helps you and your doctor see what is helping.
If your mood drops sharply, or you have thoughts of harming yourself, reach out to a health professional or a crisis line right away rather than waiting for the next visit.
myStoria keeps a private record of how you feel, your sleep and energy, and what helps, so your appointment starts from your real experience rather than a single hard day. It stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
This page offers general information to help you prepare for and follow up on your low mood appointment. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you are in crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 in the US and Canada, or your local emergency number. myStoria video consults are scheduled in advance.
