Headaches are common and have many causes, so the details you bring make the difference between a vague visit and a useful one. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to handle the days after.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a headache visit that gets you answers

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track when the headaches happen, how long they last, and where the pain sits. Note how it feels, whether throbbing, pressure, or sharp, and how bad it gets on a scale of one to ten.

Write down anything that seems to trigger or ease them, like sleep, stress, screens, food, or caffeine. List the medications you have tried, how often you take them, and how well they work.

Bring these questions

  • What could be causing my headaches?
  • Do I need any tests or a scan?
  • Which treatments or changes should I try first?
  • What symptoms mean I should seek care urgently?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to ask about the pattern, examine you, and check for triggers or warning signs. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on finding a plan, not just gathering the basics.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, keep tracking each headache the same way, including whether the plan is helping. A clear record shows whether things are improving or need another look.

If the headaches get worse, change in pattern, or come with new symptoms, do not wait for the next appointment. Otherwise, book your follow-up with your updated notes in hand.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps your headache patterns, triggers, and the treatments you have tried in one place, so you can show what is really happening instead of summarizing from memory. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last one. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
