Cholesterol is managed over time, so a visit built on your past results and current habits is far more useful than starting from scratch. The record you bring makes the plan sharper. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a cholesterol visit that keeps you on track

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Bring your recent cholesterol results and any earlier ones, so your doctor can see the trend. Note your family history of heart disease and any symptoms, though high cholesterol often has none.

Write down your current medications and doses, whether you have missed any, and any side effects. List changes in your diet, activity, weight, alcohol, or smoking since your last visit.

Bring these questions

  • Are my numbers where they should be for my risk?
  • Do I need medication, or a change to what I take?
  • Which diet and activity changes would help most?
  • How often should I have my levels checked?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to review your results, weigh your overall heart risk, and talk through medication and lifestyle. Lead with your results so the visit focuses on the plan.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, stick with the plan you agreed and note any side effects from medication. Have your levels rechecked on the schedule your doctor set.

High cholesterol itself is usually silent, but if you have chest pain, breathlessness, or sudden weakness or numbness, seek urgent care. Otherwise, book your follow-up with your results in hand.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps your cholesterol results, medications, and habits in one place, so your appointment starts from the trend over time rather than a single lab slip. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
