Nausea and vomiting have many possible causes, so a clear account of the pattern helps your doctor narrow things down. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a visit that gets you answers

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track how long it has been going on, how often you vomit, and what brings it on or eases it. Note anything with it, like pain, fever, dizziness, or whether you can keep fluids down.

Write down recent foods, travel, or new medications, and anything you have tried. List your current medications and any chance of pregnancy, since both can matter here.

Bring these questions

  • What is likely causing this?
  • How do I stay hydrated if I cannot keep things down?
  • Do I need any tests?
  • What symptoms mean I should be seen sooner?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to ask about the timeline, check your hydration, and look for a cause. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on a plan rather than fact-finding.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, track whether it eases on the plan you were given, how your hydration is holding up, and any new symptoms.

If you cannot keep any fluids down, see blood in your vomit, or have severe belly pain, a stiff neck, or confusion, seek urgent care. Otherwise, book a follow-up with your notes ready.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps how long it has lasted, what sets it off, and what you have tried in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a rough recollection. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
