Neck pain can come from posture, a strain, or something that needs a closer look. The details you bring help your doctor pinpoint it faster. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a neck pain visit that gets you moving

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track when the pain started, whether it followed an injury or built up over time, and exactly where it sits. Note whether it spreads into your shoulder or arm, and whether numbness or tingling comes with it.

Record what eases it and what makes it worse, from screens to sleep position to certain movements. List the pain relievers, stretches, or heat you have tried and how much they helped.

Bring these questions

  • What is likely causing my neck pain?
  • Do I need imaging, or can we start treatment first?
  • Which movements should I avoid or focus on?
  • What signs mean I should seek care urgently?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to check your neck movement and reflexes, ask about the timeline, and rule out warning signs. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on your plan.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, keep a short note on pain and what you can do, and stick with any exercises for the time your doctor suggested. Steady progress is the goal.

If you have new arm weakness, numbness, or the pain follows a hard fall or comes with a fever or severe headache, do not wait, seek care. Otherwise, book your follow-up with your progress notes.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps where your neck hurts, what sets it off, and what you have tried in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a vague memory. It holds your history between visits, so each one builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
