Osteoporosis weakens bones over time and often has no symptoms until a break, so a visit built on your risk factors and results helps your doctor protect your bones. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a visit that protects your bones

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Note any fractures you have had and how they happened, and any loss of height or change in posture. Track your activity, and whether you have had a bone density scan.

Write down your diet, especially calcium and vitamin D, and whether you smoke or drink. List your current medications, any family history of osteoporosis, and any conditions or steroids that affect bone.

Bring these questions

  • What is my fracture risk?
  • Do I need a bone density scan or blood tests?
  • Which treatment or supplements would help?
  • Which exercises are safe and helpful for me?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to review your risk factors, height, and any scan results, and talk through treatment, diet, and exercise. Lead with your notes so the visit focuses on the plan.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, keep up the plan you agreed, note any side effects from medication, and have your bones rechecked on the schedule your doctor set. A clear record shows whether things are stable.

If you have sudden back pain, a fall with pain, or you think you may have broken a bone, seek care rather than waiting.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps your risk factors, scan results, and medications in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a rough recollection. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
