A preoperative appointment is where your team confirms you are ready for surgery and answers your questions. The more complete your history, the smoother the checks go.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a preoperative visit that leaves nothing out

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Gather your current medications, supplements, and doses, along with allergies and any past reactions to anesthesia. Note recent illnesses, and bring records from other doctors involved in your care.

Write down your questions about fasting, which medications to pause, and what recovery will look like. Confirm your transportation and the support you will have at home afterward.

Bring these questions

  • Which medications should I stop, and when?
  • How long should I fast before the procedure?
  • What does recovery look like, and what help will I need at home?
  • What warning signs after surgery mean I should call?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect a review of your health history, current medications, and test results, plus instructions for the day of surgery. Lead with your notes so every medication and allergy is on record.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

Write down the instructions you are given and set reminders for anything time-sensitive, like when to stop eating or pause a medication. Confirm the date, time, and location of the procedure.

If anything changes before surgery, a new illness, a medication question, or a scheduling conflict, contact the clinic promptly rather than waiting for the day itself.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps your medications, allergies, records, and questions together, so your preoperative visit starts complete and you can pick up cleanly afterward. When you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
