A donor consult is where you explore building your family with donor eggs, sperm, or embryos, and what each path involves. There is a lot to weigh, so coming in prepared helps. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a consult that moves you forward

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Think about what matters to you in a donor and a path, since options range from known to anonymous donors. Note your own health history and any past fertility care, and gather relevant records if you have them.

Write down your questions about screening, genetics, counseling, and any legal steps, since these vary by clinic and location. If you have a partner, include their questions and history too.

Bring these questions

  • What are my options with donor eggs, sperm, or embryos, and how do they compare?
  • How are donors screened, medically and genetically?
  • What counseling or legal steps are part of the process?
  • What are the success rates and costs for my situation?
  • What are the next steps and the likely timeline?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your provider to review your history, explain the options, and outline the screening, counseling, and legal steps involved. Lead with your notes and questions so the visit reflects what matters to you.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

Note the options and steps your provider outlined, and any counseling or paperwork to arrange. Keep everything with your notes so you can take your time deciding.

When you are ready, book a follow-up to talk through your choice and the plan. Bring your questions so the conversation picks up where this one left off.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps your history, questions, and any records in one private place, so your consult starts from a clear picture and nothing gets forgotten. Everything stays with you between visits, so you can weigh your options at your own pace. When you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
