Itchy skin can come from dryness, an allergy, a skin condition, or something internal, so a clear account of where it itches and when helps your doctor find the cause. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a visit that gets you answers

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Track where the itch is, when it started, and whether it is worse at certain times, like at night or after a shower. Note whether there is a rash, dryness, or nothing visible, and how much it disrupts your sleep.

Write down anything around the time it started, like a new soap, laundry detergent, medication, or food. List your current medications and any history of allergies, eczema, or thyroid or liver conditions.

Bring these questions

  • What is most likely causing my itch?
  • Could a product, medication, or allergy be behind it?
  • Do I need any tests, like blood work?
  • Which treatment should I try first?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your doctor to look at your skin, ask about the pattern, and consider tests if there is no clear cause. Share your notes early so the visit lands on a clear plan.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

After the visit, track whether the itch eases on the plan you were given, and note anything that sets it off. A clear record shows whether things are improving.

If the itch is severe, all over your body, or comes with yellowing skin, swelling, or trouble breathing, seek care promptly rather than waiting.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps where the itch is, what sets it off, and what you have tried in one place, so your appointment starts from a clear picture rather than a rough guess. Everything stays with you between visits, so a follow-up builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
