A preconception visit is a chance to get your health in a good place before trying to conceive, for both partners. A little prep helps you cover the things that matter most. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.

— Your appointment, start to finish

Three steps to a confident start

01
Before your visit

Prepare

Note your cycle pattern, any past pregnancies or losses, and how long you have been thinking about trying. Track your current medications and supplements, since some need reviewing before pregnancy, and note whether you have started a folic acid supplement.

Gather your vaccination and screening history, and think about family history on both sides that a provider should know. If you have a partner, their health and history matter too, so bring what you can.

Bring these questions

  • What can we both do now to prepare for a healthy pregnancy?
  • Are any of my medications or supplements a concern?
  • Which vaccinations or screenings should I have first?
  • How long should we try before seeking further advice?
  • Given my history, is there anything specific to plan for?
02
During your visit

Make the time count

Expect your provider to review your health, medications, and history, and to talk through lifestyle and timing. Share your notes early so the visit covers both partners and your specific questions.

Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.

Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)

03
After your visit

Follow up

Note any changes your provider suggested, like adjusting a medication, starting a supplement, or booking a screening, and put them in motion. Keep tracking your cycles so timing is clearer when you start trying.

If you have been trying for a while without success, generally a year, or six months if you are over 35, book a follow-up to talk about next steps. Bring your cycle notes and history.

How myStoria helps

Every appointment starts prepared

myStoria keeps your cycle history, medications, and questions in one private place, so your visit starts from a clear picture and nothing gets forgotten. Everything stays with you between visits, so each step builds on the last. When you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
