A sore throat usually clears on its own, but some need a closer look. The details you bring help your doctor tell the difference quickly. Here is what to prepare, what to ask, and how to follow up.
Note how long your throat has hurt, how bad it is, and whether it is getting better or worse. Track anything with it, like fever, swollen glands, a rash, trouble swallowing, or a hoarse voice.
Write down anything you have tried, from lozenges to pain relievers, and how much they helped. List your current medications, allergies, and any recent contact with someone who was sick.
Expect your doctor to look at your throat, feel for swollen glands, and possibly swab for strep. Share your notes early so the visit moves quickly to a clear answer.
Take notes as the doctor talks, record the meeting (with their permission!) in myStoria, or add a quick voice note to myStoria as soon as possible afterward so that you are not relying on memory alone.
Before you leave the clinic, ask for copies of anything from the visit, like lab results, assessments, or referrals, and upload them to myStoria to keep your history complete. (If you aren't able to get copies, connect with Concierge and we can help you source them!)
After the visit, keep track of whether the pain eases on the plan you were given, and note any new symptoms as they come up.
If it has not improved in the time your doctor expected, or you have trouble breathing or swallowing, seek care rather than waiting. Otherwise, book a follow-up with your notes ready.
myStoria keeps your symptoms, how long they have lasted, and what you have tried in one place, so your visit starts from a clear picture rather than a rough recollection. It holds your history between visits, so each one builds on the last. And when you want to talk something through, you can schedule a video consult in advance with a member of our team, several of whom are nurses.
This page offers general information to help you prepare for and follow up on your sore throat appointment. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, drooling, or a high fever, seek urgent care. myStoria video consults are scheduled in advance.
